I was born in Hong Kong while it was a British dependent colony, and I was just a month old when my family immigrated to the US. I spent my early childhood in The Bronx, New York and grew up primarily in the Dallas, Texas area.
I attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with university High Honors and Psychology Honors. I was then awarded a graduate fellowship and completed my doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa (a nationally top-ranked program). Prior to graduating, I completed my internship at the Spark M. Matsunaga VA Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, and followed that with a stint as a researcher at the National Center for PTSD.
I received clinical training at a university counseling center, multiple VA hospitals, a prison classification center, a mood disorders clinic, a neuropsychology clinic, and at multiple private practices. I also provided psychological assessments and disability determination consultative services for the state of Texas for many years.
I established my private practice in 2005 and have been providing counseling, assessment, and consulting services since.
When I'm not doing psychology-related things, I enjoy playing music (guitar, drums, keyboards, whatever), playing billiards, browsing Reddit, and spending time with my wife and kids. I also dream of going back to Hawaii someday. Gotta keep the dream alive.
